Donor support for Ultrasound puts Caring in Action

April 13, 2026 - From common conditions to critical illness, the Ross Memorial team relies on the precision images provided by ultrasound technology to give patients the fastest, safest path forward.

Right now, Ross Memorial needs to update and grow its fleet of ultrasound machines to better meet the needs of our growing patient population. With RMH Chief of Staff, Dr. Michel Boivin, the RMH Foundation is seeking donor support for this crucial tool.

“Throughout the Ross, in every department, ultrasound helps our teams save lives, guide treatment and improve pain and symptom management,” As Chief of Medical Staff at Ross Memorial Hospital, an Intensivist in the ICU, and an expert in the use of ultrasound in critical illness, Dr. Michel Boivin is uniquely qualified to outline the need for leading-edge ultrasound technology.

“Day and night, in diagnostic imaging or at the bedside, we count on ultrasound to diagnose gall stones, early signs of kidney and liver disease, fluid build-up in the lungs, ovarian cysts and blood clots in the veins,” said Dr. Boivin. “From blood flow to the functioning of each chamber of your heart, ultrasound helps us see how you’re doing.”

“The Ross team counts on ultrasound technology for patient care between 40 and 50 times per day at the Ross. Due to its age and constant use, it’s imperative that the fleet of ultrasound machines is updated; however, the hospital doesn’t receive government funding to replace medical equipment. It is only with the help of donors that these critical needs are met,” said Erin Coons, RMH Foundation CEO.

“Over the next few weeks, people throughout Kawartha Lakes will be receiving Dr. Boivin’s letter in the mail. On behalf of our community of patients and the Ross Team that cares for them 24/7, we ask that you read his letter and consider making a donation to ensure the best care is available when it’s needed,” said Mona Malcolm-Sharman, RMH Foundation board chair.

Every donation makes a difference. Your gifts can be sent by mail, by phone at 705-328-6146, or online. You can also make your donation in person at our Foundation Offices on the second floor at Ross Memorial.
