October 26, 2026 - A generous $7,500 gift from the Dragon Flies Breast Cancer Survivors’ Group will help advance breast cancer care at Ross Memorial Hospital (RMH) by supporting the expansion and modernization of ultrasound services.

This high-priority ultrasound revitalization project will have a substantial impact on Ross Memorial's ultrasound capabilities, such as breast cancer screening. It also includes a state-of-the-art dedicated breast imaging workstation, allowing radiologists to compare mammograms with ultrasounds and perform ultrasound-guided procedures such as biopsies.

Thanks to a matching challenge from FDC Foundation, the Dragon Flies’ gift will be doubled when the community raises $500,000 for ultrasound care, unlocking an additional $500,000.

The Dragon Flies presented their gift to RMH President and CEO Veronica Nelson during the annual Diva Night event on October 22 at the Lindsay Armoury where more than 400 people gathered for an evening of fellowship, support and breast cancer awareness.

"We are deeply honoured by the Dragon Flies' ongoing support, which has now reached an incredible $445,300 in cumulative giving to ensure patients can access advanced breast cancer care close to home," says RMH Foundation CEO Erin Coons.

During Diva Night, attendees heard from guest speaker Kristen Bradbury, a diagnostic medical sonographer. Bradbury discussed advances in breast imaging and treatment, highlighting how ultrasound complements mammography to support more comprehensive care during what can be a frightening and stressful time for patients.

Over the years, the Dragon Flies' generosity has helped Ross Memorial Hospital acquire leading-edge diagnostic technology including 3D mammography and MRI, making it possible to establish an Accredited Breast Assessment Centre with a High-Risk Breast Screening program affiliated with Cancer Care Ontario.

Since 2002, the Dragon Flies Breast Cancer Survivor Group has also supported women and men following a breast cancer diagnosis through wellness and exercise activities, access to resources, dragon boating, and events featuring special guest speakers.

Dragon Flies past president Bonnie Manintveld, the emcee during Diva Night, told the crowd that the group enables members to raise their voices for awareness, education, friendship, and solidarity.

"Together, we are stronger," she said. "Together, we are unstoppable."
