December 22, 2020 - Where there is a need, there is a Lion. The Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation is honoured to be among the many community causes supported through the Fenelon Falls and District Lions Club’s generosity. Since 1996, the club has donated $31,000 to support hospital needs in the operating rooms, the Dialysis Unit, the Palliative Care Unit and the Diagnostic Imaging department.

Today, the Lions visited the hospital to present another special donation — this one in memory of Don Johnstone, a 20 year club member who passed away this year. President Barry Tate and members Susan Tate and Lloyd McIntyre presented a cheque for $500 to Erin Coons, RMH Foundation CEO, to support the Brighter Tomorrows holiday appeal and help the community purchase a new CT Scanner.

“The Fenelon Falls and District Lions are a wonderful example of those who believe that community is what you make it, and they make it better year after year through their support of local causes,” said Erin Coons. “This gift made in memory of Mr. Johnstone will impact patient care for years to come, helping doctors diagnose injury and disease, and guiding surgeries and cancer treatments.”

Letters have been mailed throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes to encourage donor support for the Brighter Tomorrows holiday appeal. Government funding does not cover the cost of all hospital equipment. Most medical equipment at RMH is funded through donations.

Computerized Tomography (CT) scanning combines a series of images taken from various angles to create cross-sectional views of a patient’s bones, blood vessels and soft tissues. At the Ross, the CT team conducts more than 12,000 scans every year.
