40 yrs after John Lindsay's inaugural golf tournament - his legacy lives on
In 1975, John Lindsay took a swing at a big idea — gathering his friends for a game of golf and a good deed.
John Lindsay passed away in 2003, but his good work is still giving back. The John Lindsay Memorial Golf Tournament celebrated its 12th year in April, with 39 golfers taking part, raising $2,085 for the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation.
Today, organizers Greg Welton and Les Fowler presented the proceeds to Erin Coons, Executive Director of the RMH Foundation. The funds will be directed to the “Exceptional Care is In Your Hands” spring appeal, which is helping to raise funds to purchase two life-support ventilators for patients in the ICU and a portable ultrasound to diagnose life-threatening injuries in the ER.
Since 2003, the John Lindsay Memorial Golf Tournament has raised $26,121.00 to enhance patient care at the Ross Memorial by funding medical equipment and capital projects. The group has earned a “Benefactor” plaque on the hospital’s donor recognition wall.
“When John Lindsay launched his first golf tournament forty years ago, he probably never thought it would still be going strong so many years later. How wonderful for his friends and family to continue to see the impact his generosity is having on the community”, said Erin Coons. “We’re grateful for Greg’s and Les’ efforts to keep John’s legacy alive.”
