Businessman's golf tournament will help RMH programs that returned him to health
Andrew King says he had ‘bad plumbing’. It’s a simple way of explaining the blockages in his heart that led to open heart surgery two years ago.
Following his procedure, he participated in the Cardiac Rehabilitation and Diabetes Education programs, both part of the Health First chronic disease prevention and management program at Ross Memorial Hospital.
Busy with his business, Kawartha Lakes Lift and Truck Incorporated, King is grateful to the program staff that helped him to regain — and maintain — his health.
Wanting to give back, King decided to host a golf tournament as a fundraiser for the two programs.
King’s tournament will take place June 15th at the Lindsay Golf & Country Club. The tournament, which includes a light lunch and roast beef dinner, costs $135 per person. Interested golfers can register by calling 705-928-7307.
“So many people benefit from the cardiac rehab and diabetes education programs at the Ross. Andrew’s fundraiser isn’t just helping the hospital — it’s helping all of those patients,” said Erin Coons, Executive Director of the RMH Foundation. “We hope the Kawartha Lakes Lift & Truck Golf Tournament is a great day for everyone involved.”
The RMH Cardiac Rehabilitation team assists people who have had a heart attack, heart surgery, symptoms of heart disease, or those who are at high risk of developing heart disease. The program provides education, exercise, monitoring and support for participants and their families. The Cardiac Rehab team had 230 new referrals and more than 2500 visits in the last year.
The RMH Diabetes Education program offers individual appointments and group education sessions about living with and managing diabetes. Clients learn about blood glucose testing, carbohydrate counting, heart health, and health maintenance. The program has more than 1700 clients and had 3800 visits last year.
