Kawartha Lakes Firefighters Association generosity reaches patients at RMH

When firefighters jump into their gear, their priority is saving lives. At fire scenes, motor vehicle accidents, and during medical emergencies in the community. Now they’re reaching out to help save lives at the Ross Memorial Hospital.

On July 28th, members of the Kawartha Lakes Professional Firefighters Association presented a cheque for $2000 to help the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation purchase new defibrillators through the Moments that Matter spring appeal.

The gift is part of the proceeds of the Association’s boot drive before Easter.

“We were blown away by the support we received during our boot drive,” said Ryan Bell, Treasurer for the Kawartha Lakes Professional Firefighters Association. “When we were discussing which charities we would like to support, we agreed that helping the hospital to buy new defibrillators was a nice tie-in to the fire service.”

“Thanks to the Kawartha Lakes Professional Firefighters Association, we’re even closer to meeting our fundraising goal of $92,500 which will help us to replace five defibrillators located throughout the hospital,” said RMH Foundation Executive Director Erin Coons. “Firefighters know how important these tools are. They see medical emergencies in the community on a regular basis. Defibrillators save lives.”

This gift brings the appeal total to $80,842.08 — 87% of the Foundation’s goal.
