Lindsay Lions' vision includes enhanced eye care for local patients
Many of us look at a pop can tab as a way to get into our drink. Thanks to the Lindsay Lions, local students and Ross Memorial patients can see more than that.
The Lions encourage area schools to help them recycle pop can tabs. The money that’s generated is donated to causes that contribute to the Lions’ ‘quest for sight’.
Since members of Lions International were challenged by Helen Keller to become ‘Knights for the Blind’, they’ve helped sight-challenged people through their generous support of vision screening in schools, the recycling of eye glasses and donations to purchase assistive devices.
They are also dedicated supporters of the Ross Memorial Hospital’s ophthalmology program, where cataract surgery is performed.
On June 24th, Lions Mark and Cora Donneral, Dan Kuijpers, Ken Huelin and Tammy Larocque presented RMH Foundation Executive Director Erin Coons with a cheque for $1000.
“This gift from the Lindsay Lions will help purchase medical equipment for the Ross Memorial’s Eye Suite, where 1345 procedures were performed last year,” said Coons. “The Lions are giving the gift of sight. I don’t think you can put a value on that.”
