Scheer and Sherkin: positive partnerships are par for the course

It was following a visit to the RMH Diagnostic Imaging Department in 2007 that Therese Scheer learned that some of the breast screening equipment needed upgrading. Wanting to help, she came up with a simple solution:  she invited friends to golf together and she collected a donation from the group.

Her plan was so successful, Therese then challenged golfers at other golf courses around the City of Kawartha Lakes, with fabulous results.

Therese is grateful for her many helpers, including Dr. Marc Sherkin, who donated 18 engraved golf clubs to be presented as prizes to golfers achieving the ‘longest drive’ and ‘closest to the pin’ contests during this season’s tournaments at Sturgeon Point Golf Club, Deer Run Golf Course, Byrnell Golf Club, Western Trent Golf Club and Eganridge Golf & Country Club.

Dr. Sherkin, Sleep Medicine and Respirology Specialist, provides care to patients of the Hospital Alliance Group Sleep Lab at Ross Memorial Hospital.

“We’re so happy to welcome Dr. Sherkin to the Foundation family of fundraisers,” said Erin Coons, RMHF Executive Director. “With this generous gesture, Dr. Sherkin shows that there are many ways to care for local patients. Together with Therese, he’s encouraging people to play a role in exceptional care.”

Since 2007, Therese’s efforts, including golf tournaments, fashion show and dance events, ornament sales, raffles, and bake sales have raised $88,762 for the breast health program at Ross Memorial Hospital. Therese’s goal is to raise $100,000 in ten years.
